Here's a nifty little thing I ran across. Enjoy!
Animal of the Day

This wonderful piece of original art was created by ME, in response to a strange search via which somebody visited my blog. They were looking for a "one eyed baby with horn" so I didn't want to disappoint them should they ever return.

This blog is a complete sentence, correct spelling, and proper use of upper and lower case letters blog. My aim is for you to leave here with a pain-free reading experience!

Things that happen in the 6th grade

Today had to have been one of Nolan's finest days in the 6th grade.  In science, they got to disect a sheep's eye, and he was very excited about it.  Indeed, it turned out to be just as exciting as he had hoped, though maybe not in the way he imagined...

It turns out that kids were allowed to sit in the hall if they wished.  Four girls chose to do so.  Another girl that Nolan thought might sit it out was braver, and even took on cutting responsibilities.  Much to her chagrin though, as she cut too quickly into the vitreous humor and it sprayed into her mouth!  She ran into the hall, puked into the drinking fountain, and in a fine chain reaction triggered vomiting in the four girls in the hall!  And they thought they were safe out there.  Ha!

For his part, Nolan really enjoyed the experience.  He cut eagerly, and his group was the most enthusiastic about the whole thing.  He also appreciated the irony of it all.

The rest of his day was definitely a letdown after the fun in science.

Bzzzzt!

Wedding Crashers - BZZZZZZT!  Not available, already taken back to Blockbuster.

Malibu's Most Wanted - BZZZZZZZT!  Better off as a skit, we lasted oh, about 15 minutes.

Bad News Bears - WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!! - at last, we have landed on something to watch.  Ninety minutes of Billy Bob Thornton will do just fine.l  And to think, Angelina Jolie gave him up.

Fool.

Pales in comparison

Let it hereby be known that all television shows pale in comparison to Six Feet Under.  Neither of the Blockbuster stores in town have the third season.  Bastards.  We are stuck watching something else.  We tried Angel, and lasted for about 15 minutes.  Now we've watched the first episode of Alias.  Better than Angel, but not nearly as good as Six Feet Under.

I think we're going to watch Wedding Crashers now.

The year begins

Here we are already, one week into the new year.  Wow.  I'm still trying to make sense of last year - but if I spend too much time on that I'll go absolutely mad.  MAD, I tell you!

Lots of changes ahead this year.  I'm not really one to make resolutions, but I have vowed to drink more tea.  Heaven knows, I have plenty!  The other day I reorganized my food cupboards, and as you can see I have enough tea for China.

Tea, anyone?

Who needs coffee when you have tea?!!

I'm also determined to begin selling my photos, beadwork, and crochet.  Interestingly, opportunities are already coming up that could work out very well.  There is the possibility of joining an artist's coop on the south end of the island.  I'm going to attend a meeting this month to find out more about it.  They are in the process of revamping after having lost their previous space, so it is all up in the air.  It sounds to be very promising - and would force me to be much more serious about my production levels.  After all, you can't sell art if you don't make any!!

My writing is also going to undergo some changes.  Subter.com is on hiatus this month for reconstruction in a slightly different form.  I will no longer be writing Bibliomancy, which focused primarily on books and reading.  My new column will not have any particular focus at all - essentially I will be writing whatever I feel like.  I'm very excited about the change.  While I enjoyed writing about books, some months I found it to much more difficult to spit out a good column.  I'm looking forward to addressing a more broad range of topics - after all, just because I work in a library doesn't mean I only read.  Hmmm.  In fact, I think I read less now than I used to.  Oh well.

The holidays went very nicely - we had a great visit with my family, followed by some extra days with my brother who stayed with us.  The absolute highlight has to be the Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker shows.  I got to see them not just once, but twice!!  I was so happy.  It was worth all the driving and late nights.  CVB played quite different sets each night, which meant I got to hear so many of my favorite songs (though they didn't play When I Win the Lottery and a couple of others I would have liked to hear).  Cracker really rocked too.  I took pictures the second night in Seattle (with the help of Chris and Syd).  Here's a few of the best...

Hmm, look at the that.  Flickr puts little borders on the pictures.  Interesting.  Anyways - the pictures turned out great, and it was fun to mess with the camera settings for different effects.  It all seems so fitting for a music show - lights and movement.

Enough for now, time to move on to something else now.  My Sunday marches on.

Oh my goodness

Been away a bit - busy with the holidays and computer problems...hoped to have them fixed soon.

Anyhow - the most exciting thing is I got to see Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker two nights in a row!!!  Whoot whoot!  The shows were just awesome.  I'll have much more to say, and pictures, when the computer is back in good working order.

For now - HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!

Oooh!

How very exciting - we had a real lightning storm tonight!  I was out driving around, picking up a book from the library and a pizza, so I got to see the lightning AND the absolute downpour of rain that accompanied it.  It was real windy, too.

I love it!

Another day, another cemetary

It seems I've developed a habit of hanging around in cemetaries.  There's nothing wrong with that, is there?  I find the photography opportunities to be quite enticing.  Today turned out to be a cold sunny day, so Nolan and I wandered around the cemetary here in town.  We didn't stay out too long - too cold, and we got hungry.  But it was a nice introduction for me, and I'll be going back soon for more pictures.  Plenty of interesting statues to photograph.  Here's a few of the photos I took today!!!

Cheers!

Another new feature

Seems that I can put whatever I'm listening to, or reading, or watching, into a blog post now.  Could be cool.  Let me test, then come back and finish this post.

Ahhhh, yes.  Just as I suspected.  It links you to Amazon, where you can purchase it right away!!!  Clever.

I chose Robert Miles, even though I'm not technically listening to him this second.  I'm actually listening to the musicmatch jukebox electronic trance station, and he's one of the artists they play a lot of.  Talk about great music for getting things done!  I love it.  I'm also fond of Juno Reactor.  And DJ Irish (but they don't play him on this station).

Okay, I can see this could get out of hand.  Bwa hahhahahahahhahahhahahaaaaa!

Heavy Frost

This morning we had a very heavy frost.  When I drove Nolan to school, in some areas it looked almost like snow!!!  Very beautiful.  The fog was drifting over the fields.  I took a couple of pictures around home...
